Why Does This Exist?

I've thought about hosting a public website for a long time now.

I don't like social media, and I hate the way it has carved the landscape of the modern internet. I'd like to be a part of an open internet that is free of corporate profit incentives, free of advertising, free of algorithms, and exists simply to exist. That's why this is here.

I've tried making a website before, but I've always gotten stuck before I finished anything. I could never seem to make decisions about how to host it, or what it should look like, or who it was even for. My approach to this website is inspired by some of my favorite websites, like billwurtz.com, and on some of the websites that my friends have made. I like websites that are simple and fun. So far this website has been writen by hand in raw HTML and CSS, with just the Vim text editor - as simple as it possibly can be (no frameworks, or templating, just hypertext). Are there more sophisticated ways to do this? Definitely. But I find the process of hand-writing markup and stylesheets kind of enjoyable, so this works for me.

I'm just starting out with this website, so it's very bare-bones for now. I'm excited for it to grow and for more things to live here. I just want to make more stuff and give people a place to see it :)
